Episode 19

Hell with a "P"

Jazzy begins the conversation by commenting upon self-made folks, those who do it all by themselves.

Phreddie changes the direction by adding dividing help into receiving and giving. Helping others is not linear path. Do some suffocating others with help? Phreddie adds the adage: "Go where they're at."

Jimmy -- help is a state, and that help goes both ways. Joy, Love, and Help -- each are giving and receiving.

Then, they discuss too much help or inappropriate help -- "Let me help you be like me." Or, "From my perspective you need help."

The conversation broadens to include: life coaches and seminars. Jazzy relates stories about cold calls and speaking in front of others.

Jimmy talks about the being dropped into a dangerous world. The Three-Headed Man havs helped each other "play the game". Jimmy prefers happy data from happy people who know. He likes spotting the people who know -- information from happy people.

"Help is the secret of the universe," says Jazzy. How do we help students through difficult activities and situations? Phreddie notes that various approaches to helping are beneficial for students.

Jimmy concludes the conversation with his notions on certainties and playing marimbas.

I like to do. I like to make things. And, I like telling stories. I tell stories to myself and to others.

First, a short biography, which is, of course, is a story. I was born in Cleveland, played sports, and attended university. Later, after a few years in the radio business, I returned to university to study education and literature.

With a teaching certificate in my file folder, I began working in high schools, first as a strike-breaking scab substitute teacher in Cleveland's far suburbs, and then in Chicago, mostly in private high schools.

Cleveland and Chicago. My two main towns, and I escaped them both. Presently, I live in a tiny, isolated, mountain village in Spain. I am reluctant to write the name of the town because I don't like tourists. When the tourists arrive, they look at me as if I am an animal in a zoo.
